ENCINITAS, Calif. —The desire for adopting the Beagle puppies was so high that they needed to create a lottery to select the lucky families. In watching the video they showed an older couple that just lost their 17 year old Beagle “Skooter” and were one of the lucky winners from the adoption lottery.

You can just see their beaming smiles and love for the pup and you know this is going to be one lucky dog “literally” lol. They believe that it was meant to be and their beloved Skooter is that little pup re-incarnated, simply AWESOME!

The first six beagle puppies out of 35 brought in last week to the Rancho Coastal Humane Society are scheduled to go home with their adoptive families Wednesday. The puppies were selected by their families last week, but they couldn’t go home until they were spayed and neutered, Humane Society spokesman John Van Zante said.

Herb and Maryann Prechtl are so grateful they were chosen to adopt one of the beagle puppies.

“I think Scooter had something to do with it also – absolutely.” Said Maryann.

Scooter was their beloved 17 year old beagle who passed away in December. The couple say with so many people wanting these dogs they think he may have had something to do with the puppy they named Harley.

“There were hundreds of people that signed up in the lottery and we are very happy. Yes, very fortunate. Meant for you. I think so, I think it was all meant to be.” said Herb and Maryann.

The beagles were handed over to an East County dog rescue group last week by an unidentified woman who was overwhelmed by their numbers, and they were delivered to the Humane Society. Another five canines were given to a pug rescue organization.

“We had adoption requests that came in from California, Chicago, New York, I heard we even had some from Europe.” said Van Zante.

Van Zante said the rescue was overwhelmed by the Beagle adoption requests.

“When we got the 400 applications, we began looking through because our goal is to match the needs of the pet with the desires of the family, We’re not making sales, we’re not making a profit. We’re making families here.” said Van Zante.

Van Zante said four more puppies, and adult beagles without puppies, are also available for adoption online.

“Six of them will go out today… we have four more that have already been spoken for that will be going out next week, and this last weekend we had one of the mommies give birth to 4 beagle puppies and there will be more that will be coming.” But Van Zante says even if the Beagles are all spoken for there are so many other deserving dogs and pets that need forever homes.

“Find one that reaches out it’s paw and touches your heart. Don’t find the one that necessarily made it on tv.” he said.

The mothers of the youngest puppies will be available for people to select, but they won’t be able to go home until their puppies are weaned — in about five or six weeks. Still other adult dogs are pregnant, and they won’t be available for about two months, he said.

He said the RCHS is accepting donations to help cover the cost of the Beagles’ care and medical treatment. Some have ear infections and a few adults need some dental care.

That is such a wonderful thing to know and it does our hearts good to know there are not only people willing to care for these abandoned pups, but the awesome folks that rescued them are hero’s. From what we understand the news report within the abandoned pups were also some adult males and females, which are now due to have more puppies!

Based on the incredible demand, we don’t think those new pups will have to worry about having loving families and forever homes any time soon.
